Time Delay and Coherence Bandwidth Evaluation in Urban Environment for PCS Microcells

This paper reports the measurement and analysis of wideband radio channel in urban propagation environment. RMS delay spread values are evaluated as well as the coherence bandwidth of the channel is derived by the frequency correlation function for 0.9 correlation. Furthermore, delay windows and signal to self-interference ratios are reported. Mean delay spread was found 0.353 μs and 2.061 μs for LoS and NLoS conditions respectively. The coherence bandwidth that characterizes the areas varies from 72 KHz in NLoS cases to 6.979 MHz in LoS cases, providing high data rates. Finally measured delay spread was found to be highly variable with increasing separation between transmitter and receiver.
